Lumping Division

A key piece of any warehouse’s operations is the physical labour force. Lumpers, also sometimes referred to as ‘swampers’, are the backbone of any productive warehouse or facility, helping to reduce driver fatigue and injury risks for the carriers, reduce loading time and improve relations with customers for the shippers, increasing the speed at which inbound freight can be received, and allowing drivers to quickly go from one appointment to the next without delay.

Third-party lumping services have been used by numerous large-scale carriers to increase productivity in almost every department.

What exactly is a lumper?

A lumper is a physical labourer specialized to work in a warehouse or logistics environment.

Lumpers are responsible for:

• The physical loading and unloading of goods

• The breakdown, repalletization and wrapping of pallets

• The transfer of non-palletized loads onto pallets

• Conducting inbound or outbound inventory checks

• Ensuring that the final result of their work is ready to be shipped, received or put away

Third-party lumping services are a good way to reduce the number of injury claims by your staff, doing the majority of the gruntwork in your shipping or receiving area themselves.

Why should you choose us?

Group NB is the only Canadian brand servicing every corner of Canada. From Victoria, BC to St. John’s, Newfoundland (and everywhere in between), we have a dedicated and experienced workforce able to meet any carrier’s needs. We have an office in every region, and are easily able to service both major cities and smaller towns.

Many competitors get a bad reputation due to their lack of management or disorganization. At Group NB, we pride ourselves on our skilled labour force, many who have been with us for years. Unlike the dozens of local temp services available, we don’t just send you anybody who walks into our office off the street; we utilize only the best workers, hiring long-term fulltime and part-time workers through our thorough interview process, specialized specifically in lumping, giving you the most bang for your buck.

For long-term contracts, we have a team lead or supervisor on site throughout the day to ensure the team’s productivity stays at its maximum. We maintain regular contact with our leads at every site, making sure to stay on top of any given task, no matter how large or small it may be.

What are my options?

We offer several different options when it comes to invoicing:

⦁ Hourly Rate
The simplest and most commonly used option, hourly rates can be beneficial for companies looking for a standardized invoice.

⦁ Rate by Piece
Piece count rates are generated for every piece a lumper touches. This option usually helps to induce stronger productivity in staff, as they can make the same amount of money for an 8 hour shift in 7 hours if they work hard and finish early!

⦁ Rate by Pallet
We also offer the option of having our staff load or unload your trailers for you! The benefits of this include speeding up the general speed of work, a better understanding of the load that employee is working on, and more time for your staff to complete any other duties they may have.

⦁ Rate by Trailer
And finally, we offer a flat rate per trailer or half trailer for days or sites that have a smaller inbound volume. These rates would vary depending on the size of the load.
